Joan Elizabeth Holding

Graveside memorial service for Joan Elizabeth Holding, 89, of Yukon, OK will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday June 2, 2017 at Rose Hill Cemetery in Chickasha, OK.  Rev. Gary Layman will officiate.

Joan Elizabeth Holding was born the daughter of Frank Meadows and Elizabeth Carpenter Meadows on January 26, 1928 in Chickasha.  She died on May 17, 2017 in Oklahoma City.

Joan graduated from Chickasha High School.  Soon after she married Bill Holding on August 17, 1946 and they made Chickasha their home.  She and her husband had three children and she devoted her life to being a housewife and mother.  She and her husband owned the Tasty Donut Shop.  Afer the kids left home she began working at the shop with her husband.  After her husband died later in life she moved to Yukon.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Elizabeth Meadows, her husband Bill Holding and five siblings.

Survivors include her daughter Teresa Cavin of Yukon, OK; her son David Holding of Chickasha, OK;  her daughter Lisa Goodner of Oxnard, CA; seven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren 

Arrangements are under the direction of McRay Funeral Home.

Frank Henry Jarvis, Jr.

Funeral service for Frank Henry Jarvis, Jr., 81, of Cement, OK will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church in Chickasha, OK.  Rev. Joel Flugstad will officiate.

Frank Henry Jarvis, Jr. was born the son of Frank Henry Jarvis, Sr. and Shirley Juanita Igo Jarvis on January 14, 1936 in Ft. Sill, OK.  He died on May 27, 2017 in Chickasha.

Frank lived many places growing up as his family followed his step-father in the military.  He graduated high school in Georgia then served three years in the United States Air Force. He married Sondra Dorries on January 4, 1958.  After being discharged in 1959 he and his wife moved to Spencer, OK.  In 1972 they moved to the Cement/Verden area where he farmed and ranched and sold insurance for American National.  

Frank was preceded in death by his parents;  son Steven Henry Jarvis; grandson Mitchell Ray Ryder Zeiset; and sister Sue Ann Caldwell.

Frank is survived by his wife Sondra Jarvis; daughter Zoe Ann Valdez; daughter Kay Bush and husband Ronnie; son Frank Henry Jarvis, III;  son John Munn; son Joshua King; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister Vida Buck and husband Danny; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Interment will be in the Cement Cemetery.  Services are under the direction of McRay Funeral Home.


Ronald Dean “Moby” Moudy

Funeral service for Ronald Dean “Moby” Moudy, age 71 of Cement, Oklahoma, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 22, 2017 in the Verden First Baptist Church.  Rev. Ed Whitley will officiate.

Ronald Dean was born the son of Leonard Moudy and Jennie Mae Barbee Moudy on March 17, 1946 in Hinton, Oklahoma.  He died at his home on May 17, 2017.

Ronald graduated from Eakley High School then went to college for a year. He then entered the United States Army.  Ronald moved to Verden, Oklahoma and began working for his cousin Sydney Smith at his gas station.  He met Joyce Peters whom he married and they made their home in Verden.  Ronald bought a gas station in Verden then added a convenience store.  This began a career of owning several gas stations and convenience stores in the Verden and Chickasha area.

He was preceded in death by his mother Jennie Mae Moudy.

Survivors include his daughter and husband Deana Hollowell and Keith of Cement; daughter Kim Williams of Chickasha; son Rodney Peters of Cement; son and wife Justin Moudy and Suzanne of Verden; son Chad Moudy of Cement; daughter and husband Deana Kay McSperitt and Cody of Carnegie; eighteen grandchildren; eight great grandchildren.

There will be no viewing.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Interment will be in the Laverty Cemetery under the direction of McRay Funeral Home, Chickasha.

Jimmy David Sims 

Services will be held May 13th at 10 am at Alex Southern Baptist Chapel, Alex, Okla., with Brother Tim Carr officiating.  Burial will follow at Alex Cemetery.  Arrangements under the direction of McRay Funeral Home.  Family will receive visitors from 5 to 8 pm Friday at the funeral home. They will also receive friends at the home.

Jimmy David Sims, age 72, of Alex, Oklahoma, died May 7, 2017, at his home surrounded by family after a long and courageous battle with cancer. The son of James Pleasant Sims and Lila (Cole), he was born July 16, 1944 in Chickasha, Oklahoma. Jim attended and graduated from Blanchard High School in 1962.

In 1976, he married Mary Ellen Hiironen in Pasadena, Texas, after their mutual friends set them up on a blind date.  To this marriage a daughter, Kimberly, was born in 1978.  Jim spent over 43 years working in the oil and gas industry as a pumper and measurement technician mainly in the Goldsby, Chickasha and Chitwood area.  He retired to embark on his favorite role, which was as a grandpa.

Throughout his life he enjoyed watching, racing and raising horses, watching stock shows, building and tinkering on his farm, spending time with his family, smoking meat, attending auctions and taking a risk on someone that most people might pass up.

He was most proud of his grandson, Kolton, and enjoyed spending time with him daily after school fishing, working with the horses or just tinkering with projects.  

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister Peggy Martin; an aunt Alice Gillenwaters; uncles, Joe and Carl Sims; nephew Jeremy Tuggle; cousin Johnny Cole.  

He is survived by his wife Mary Ellen Sims of the home; daughter Kim Kohler and husband, Heath, and their son, Kolton of Alex; Sister-in-law Paulette Tuggle and husband, Steve of Boquette, Panama; nephew Jason Tuggle of Manvel, Texas; great-niece Haley Tuggle of League City, Texas; great-uncle Jimmy Hiironen and his wife, Sand, of Saint Augustine, Florida; cousins Harold and Donna Gillenwaters of Chickasha, and their son, Greg and his family of Austin, Texas; Mona Mitchell and Virginia Treadway of Blanchard; Charlotte Hackney and Vicky Keeler of Dibble. 

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Lifeline Home Health and Hospice and Joey Pettijohn for the wonderful care they provided him throughout his battle with cancer.

Dora Jean Cox

Funeral service for Dora Jean Cox, age 88, will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, May 8, 2017, at the Laverty Baptist Church.  Rev. J.V. Lobaugh will officiate.

Dora Jean Cox was born the daughter of Horace Cotten and Edith Powers Cotten on July 25, 1928, in Carnegie, Oklahoma.  She died on May 2, 2017, in Chickasha.

Before getting married, Dora worked as a beautician.  She married Jerrold Cox on New Years Eve in 1950 and they made their home east of Dutton.  Soon thereafter, she and Jerrold moved to Oklahoma City.  Thirteen years later, they moved to Verden.  Dora was a member of the Laverty Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school and served in other teaching positions for over 25 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents Horace and Edith Cotten, her husband Jerrold Cox, and her daughter Debra McCool.

Survivors include son-in-law and wife Terry and Janet McCool; grandson Chris McCool; granddaughter and husband Tracey and Heath Payne; great grandchildren Logan Payne and Ethan Payne; sister and husband Coleta and Victor Stephens; brother and wife Jerry and Lillian Cotten.

Interment will be in the Fairlawn Cemetery under direction of McRay Funeral Home.
