Elaine Marie (Freise) McCurley

Funeral service for Elaine McCurley, 80, of Chickasha, OK will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, December 4, 2017 at Southern Oaks Church of Christ in Chickasha.  James Sanderson will officiate.

Elaine Marie (Freise) McCurley was born June 27, 1937 on the family farm in Bonfield, Illinois to Everett and Marie (Clark) Freise.  She and her family moved to Okarche, OK when she was around five years old and then the family moved to Chickasha, OK when she was nine.  She and her oldest brother Robert and youngest brother Wesley grew to adulthood in Chickasha, each going their separate ways to begin new lives.

Elaine married Garvin McCurley on August 26, 1953 and they began their family.  There were 4 children to come from this union.  Rhonda, Linda and Steven were born in Chickasha, OK.  Elaine and Garvin moved to Miami, OK August 28, 1966 and the next day, the 29th of August, 1966, was celebrated with a birthday breakfast for Steven in a small restaurant.  The next year in March her fourth child, Glendon, was born.

Elaine lived in Miami, OK for 46 years.  She worked throughout her life and the last 25 years she owned McCurley Janitorial Service.  Her joy in life came from raising her children and enjoying her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She especially loved Christmas time with her family!  She loved watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren opening their gifts!  She loved preparing the family meal and she always had turkey and dressing.  Her dressing was always the best, there was none to compare!

When Elaine’s son Glen and husband Garvin passed away in 2011, she continued the best she could to live in Miami, OK for the next two years, but illness caused her to decide to sell her home in Miami in November, 2013.  Elaine then moved, on December 6, 2013, to live with her daughter Rhonda in Chickasha, OK where she remained until her passing on November 29, 2017 from a lengthy battle with lung cancer.  Elaine dealt with cancer four times in her life but to her family she was the most loving, kind and strong person who was not defined by her illness, but by her unfailing love for her family.  She was deeply loved by us all!  We know she is with our Lord and that we will see her again.

Elaine was preceded in death by her father Everett Freise; mother Marie (Clark) Freise; husband Garvin McCurley; son Glendon McCurley; brother Robert Freise; and son-in-law Hal Pike.

Elaine is survived by her daughter Rhonda Pike of Chickasha, OK; daughter Linda Lortz and husband Ed of Sapulpa, OK; and son Steven McCurley and wife Sherry of Oklahoma City, OK; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
