Betty Jo (Zoellner) Mullican

Funeral services for Betty Jo (Zoellner) Mullican, 95, of Mesa, Arizona (formally of Enid, Oklahoma for over 30 years) will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at the McRay Funeral Home Chapel with Ron Blankinship officiating.   Interment will be in the Rush Springs Cemetery.  


Betty was born August 20, 1923 in Mountain View, Oklahoma to John Edward and Blanche (Cartrett) Zoellner.  She died Tuesday, November 13, 2018 in Mesa, Arizona at the age of 95.  Betty was a baton twirler during her high school years.  She worked for the U.S. Civil Service from 1944 to 1946 where she was stationed in Hawaii before attending the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque.   


She married Howard Kenneth Mullican of Chickasha, Oklahoma on May 4, 1951. They were married for 42 years at the time of his death. They had 3 children, Mahota, Mark and Terry.   Betty was a homemaker, wife and mother in Enid, Oklahoma and an accomplished bridge Life Master until the passing of her husband in 1993.   Betty and Howard loved taking ‘Cruises’ all over the world in their later years.  After her husband’s death Betty relocated to Mesa, Arizona to be of assistance in caring for her disabled son and help her daughter in rearing 3 grandchildren. And, of course, the nicer winter weather was very appealing.  

 
Betty is survived by her Daughter’s:  Mahota Jo Hadley / son-in-law George Hadley of Apache Junction, Arizona and Terry Lee Roblyer / son-in-law Bob Roblyer of Houston, Texas, Grandchildren:  Brandon, Matthew and Nicholas Hadley, Taylor and Michelle Roblyer. Great Grandchildren:  Ryan, Chase and Vincent Hadley and Gabe Roblyer.   The extended family includes lots of nieces and nephews.  


Betty is preceded in death by her son Mark Harris Mullican, parents John Edward and Blanche Zoellner, brother’s John Zoellner and Roy Zoellner, sisters Phyllis Styron and Georgia Mae Gish.

Bettye Jean (Rushing) Hughes

Memorial service for Bettye Jean (Rushing) Hughes, 85, of Chickasha, will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday November 26, 2018 at the First Presbyterian Church.  Rev. J. Pat Kennedy will officiate.

Bettye was born the daughter of Luther D. Rushing and Lula Loretta Smith Rushing on July 20, 1933 in West Lincoln, MS.  She died on November 16, 2018 in Chickasha.

Bettye was born and raised on a farm in Lincoln County, Mississippi.  She was the third oldest of 10 brothers and sisters.  She attended West Lincoln schools where she graduated as Salutatorian of her class in 1951.  She attended Copiah-Lincoln Junior College where she obtained her Associate Degree in 1953 before attending Mississippi State College for Women and the University of Southern Mississippi, where she graduated with her Bachelor of Science Degree and teaching certificate in home economics.  Following her graduation, Bettye moved to Lake City, Florida where she taught for two years before accepting  positions with the Ridgecrest Baptist Assembly in North Carolina.  When she felt the call to go back to teaching, friends in Kansas knew of a school in need of a home economics teacher so she moved to Fort Scott, Kansas.  It was there that she met Griff Hughes and they were married in June, 1963 and soon had two daughters, Jenifer and Nancy. In April, 1969 the family moved to Chickasha where Bettye considered herself fortunate to be a stay at home mom and wife.  She became active in community activities such as PEO, the Sorosis Study Club, the League of Women Voters and Friends of the Library.  She served on several boards and helped with numerous community activities such as Santa’s Workshop, Emergency Food Pantry, Grady County Historical Society, Community Action Council and the Nutrition Program for Seniors. Bettye later worked as a substitute teacher prior to retirement which she and Griff enjoyed together.  Several Scriptures were special to her, but some of her favorites were I Corinthians 13, the love chapter; Psalm 121, Romans 8:28 and Ecclesiastes 3.  Bettye was a member of the Presbyterian Church for over 50 years.

Bettye was preceded in death by her husband Griff Hughes; her parents Lula and Luther Rushing; brothers Versie, Decator and William  Rushing; and sisters Lena Smith, Laurie Sisco and Patsy Ann Nations. 

Bettye is survived by her daughters Jenifer Adams and Nancy Hughes; grandsons Justin and John Adams; sisters Frances Mullins and husband Billy, and Dianne Little; brother Donald Rushing and wife Lee; sister-in-law Sarah Lynn Rushing; brother-in-law Billy Nations; and several nieces and nephews.

 Memorial contributions may be made to the USAO Foundation or the Emergency Food Pantry.  Services are under the direction of McRay Funeral Home.


Robert Joseph Rempe

Funeral service for Robert Joseph Rempe, 67, of Anadarko, OK, will be held 1:30 p.m., Friday, November 23, 2018 at Bible Baptist Church in Chickasha.  Pastor Kim Hayes will officiate.  There will be a Rosary Service at 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at McRay Funeral Home.

Robert was born the son of Carl Joseph Rempe and Catherine Theresa Divine Rempe on April 5, 1951 in Chickasha, OK.  He died on November 17, 2018 in Chickasha.

Robert grew up in the Chickasha area on the family farm.  He was an active member in FFA, showing livestock and ag mechanics.  He graduated from Chickasha High School in 1969 and furthered his education at USAO for two years.  After college, he went into farming and carpentry.  He married the love of his life, Jeanne Russell in 1972.  Robert started working in the oilfield in 1979, later becoming a machinist in 1988 until his retirement in 2015.  He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending every moment he could making life-long memories with his wife, children and grandchildren.  He always had a story or a word of wisdom to share with everyone.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents Carl and Catherine Rempe; his sister Helen Rempe and his brother Carl A. Rempe.

Robert is survived by his wife Jeanne Rempe; son Michael Rempe and wife Lori; daughter Alicia Moss and husband Les; son Jonathan Rempe and wife Monica; brother Charles Rempe; sister Betty Lagaly; sister Theresa Rempe; sister Mary Rempe; brothers Edward Rempe and Donald Rempe; seven grandchildren Logan, Gavin, Willow, Jacob, Grace, Maggie and Jared; mother-in-law Phyllis Russell; sister-in-law Cari Taylor and husband Elton; sister-in-law Patti Smith;  and numerous extended family.

Interment will be in the Verden Cemetery.  Services are under the direction of McRay Funeral Home.


Thurman Elza Slaton

Funeral service for Thurman Elza Slaton, 77, of Chickasha, OK will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November, 21, 2018 in the McRay Funeral Home Chapel.  Pastor Kim Hayes will officiate.

Thurman Elza Slaton was born the son of Jack and Mary Slaton on November 17, 1940 in Bray, OK.  He died on November 16, 2018 in Chickasha.

Thurman grew up in Chickasha. He served in the National Guard and after he was honorably discharged he went to work for the railroad for a short time.  He then worked in the oilfield as a driller for 25 years. Thurman and Carolyn Hannah were married on August 14, 1965 in Amber and were married for 53 years. He and his family lived in many places as they followed his work in the oilfield, but they always kept their house in Chickasha, which they still call home. 

Thurman was preceded in death by his parents Jack and Mary Slaton; sister Jackie Durand and long-time oilfield coworker Dennis Nagell.

Thurman is survived by his wife Carolyn Slaton; son and wife Russell and Tracy Slaton; son and wife DeWayne and Betty Slaton; daughter and husband Kathy and Scott LeDoux; daughter and husband Tammie and Roman Cajero; grandchildren Mallory and Natalie LeDoux; grandchildren Chance, Paige, and Jonah Bennett; granddaughter and husband Jennifer and Donald Jones; grandson and wife Brandon and Stacie Slaton; granddaughter and husband Hannah and Aaron Vardasebi; grandson Brett Slaton; great-grandchildren Tavion and Kemiah Slaton; Kennedy Slaton and Aldren Browning; sisters Minnie Bean and Martha Malone; long-time oilfield coworker Travis Kinard.

Interment will be in the Amber Cemetery.  Services are under the direction of McRay Funeral Home.
