Obituary

Clovis Eugene Henderson
March 12, 1936 to August 19, 2022

Funeral service for Clovis Eugene Henderson, 86, of Rush Springs, OK will be held at 1:00pm on Thursday, August 25, 2022 at the First Baptist Church in Pocasset, OK.  Pastor Clyde Ross will officiate.

Clovis Eugene Henderson was born on March 12, 1936 to Almeda (Anderton) and Norwood Henderson at Tuttle, Oklahoma.  His Mom died when he was two years old and his Dad married Molena Farmer and they gave Clovis three loving sisters, Norma, Jeanie, and Janet whom he loved dearly.

Clovis enjoyed family, school and church.  He was involved in Royal Ambassadors at First Baptist Church at Amber.  He was a good student which led to a semester at Oklahoma Baptist University but his passion was sports. He played basketball and baseball at Amber Schools as well as driving a school bus while in high school. He was most successful in baseball being the ace pitcher for his team. Clovis was good enough to be invited to be a pitcher for a semi-pro baseball team based in the Oklahoma panhandle. They traveled all over playing other semi-pro teams.  Clovis enjoyed doing this and was presented the opportunity to try out for the Baltimore Orioles which he did not pursue because he put his family first.

He married the love of his life, Barbara Ann McGuffin on May 27, 1956 at Laverty Baptist Church.  They had three boys Tim, Kent, and Danny; who were the center of their lives. Boys tend to run in packs and there were always extras at their home, helping with chores, eating snacks, playing games, even going on trips with them.  Clovis and Barbara wanted their boys to love Jesus and to accept the Lord and to live a good life, which they have all done.

Clovis was always productive. He worked at TG&Y Warehouse and he began a dairy farm operation with the help of his boys and Dad. Dairy farming is a 24 hour 7 days a week job. But he always made time to go to the baseball field and help the boys with pitching and hitting practices and often times helped other kids gain a better understanding for baseball. He encouraged others to develop their skills and to find their strengths. In his later years he certainly enjoyed watching all of his grandchildren; Macy, Jess, Danielle, Nathan, Ryan, and Zane play basketball, softball or baseball. He was so proud of all of their accomplishments both on and off the field. Fellowship with your loved ones was spiritual for Clovis. He was always witnessing to others, talking about his Lord and Savior. He wanted everyone to find the peace he had with his Lord.

Clovis' deep faith is what kept him going in hard times. His beautiful bride, Barbara, whom he loved so much and had given him 3 wonderful boys was diagnosed with cancer and went on to be with our Lord in January of 1981. Clovis was blessed to have the support of family and close friends. He continued to farm and work on the dairy. He missed the companionship and love that Barbara had given him.

He met Flo McBride and they married in March of 1982. He continued to operate the dairy until October of 1983 and decided to move to Levelland, Texas where Flo's family lived.  Flo's children said Clovis made his footprints alongside their own father. The roads between Levelland and Amber were well traveled during these years as both families made many trips to see each other.  Flo became very ill and went to be with her Lord in 2008.

Again, with a deep faith and the support of family and friends Clovis moved back to Chickasha, OK later in 2008, returning to his 3 boys and their families. He drove a school bus for Chickasha Public Schools and Canadian Valley Technology Center.  During this time he met Lola Brown and they were married in June of 2009. He continued to drive the school bus until health reasons forced him to retire. Clovis was truly a blessed man and was fortunate enough to have marriages with three outstanding women. He also had two "special gals" in his life; Flo's daughter, Gladys McBride and Jenny Lyn Dutton, Lola's granddaughter. He was the perfect person to make a difference in their lives. Clovis loved much and was cared for and loved by many.  His health declined and Clovis was tired of doctors, tests and not feeling good enough to do the things he loved, spending quality time with family. He passed peacefully surrounded by his family, listening quietly as he slipped away to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, August 19, 2022.

Clovis is survived by Lola of the home. Three sisters, Norma and her husband Larry Hogue, Jeanie and her husband Gary Buser, and Janet and her husband Joe Herrera. His three boys Tim and his wife Rita Henderson, Kent and his wife Talena Henderson, Danny and his wife Melody Henderson, his stepchildren,  Judy & Don Johnson, Lydia & David Robinson, and  John & Sharla McBride, 12 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren plus many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Almeda, Norwood, and Molena Henderson; two wives, Barbara Henderson and Flo McBride Henderson; step- grandchildren, Neisha Robinson, Gladys McBride and Anthony Lee Johnson; and many family and friends.

Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery in Tuttle, OK.  Arrangements are with McRay Funeral Home.
