 Creta LaVerne Selby

Graveside service for Creta LaVerne Selby will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, May 7, 2026, in the Ninnekah Cemetery to celebrate a beautiful life—one that touched so many with warmth, kindness, and unwavering love. Services are under the direction of McRay Funeral Home.  The family will be receiving friends from 3pm to 6pm on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Creta LaVerne Selby was born on August 17, 1942, and on May 4th, 2026, she was welcomed into her heavenly home. LaVerne was the cherished daughter of Grady Griff and Martha Mae (Capps) McConnell, and a beloved sister to many. She was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings Jerry, Charlie, Glenn, Margaret, Mildred, Edith, Janette, Grady Griff II, and Donis. She leaves behind her dear siblings Ray, Lewis, and Wanda, who carry forward her memory and love.

On April 16, 1960, LaVerne married Bill Selby, beginning a partnership filled with love and shared memories. They spent time in Oroville, California, before returning to Chickasha, Oklahoma—a place LaVerne always held close to her heart. Chickasha wasn't just where she was born; it was home in every sense of the word, because it was where her family was.

Above all, LaVerne was a devoted and loving mother to Pam Brinkman and Husband David of Chickasha, Oklahoma, and Shelley Lawson and Husband Scott of Fort Worth, Texas. Her love only grew as her family expanded—she was a proud grandmother to Chasity, Jordan, Blake, and Brayden, and a joyful great-grandmother to Tucker, Braxton, Chayse, Jentry, and Chesny. Her family was her heart, her purpose, and her greatest joy.

LaVerne had a gift—one that can't be measured in words alone. She had a smile that could brighten any room and a way of making everyone feel welcome the moment they walked through her door. Whether it was a holiday gathering filled with laughter and home-cooked meals or a fishing trip with the family, those were the moments she treasured most. Being surrounded by the people she loved brought her a happiness that was simple, pure, and deeply genuine.

Her life reminds us that the greatest legacy we can leave is not found in grand achievements, but in the love we give, the kindness we show, and the way we make others feel. LaVerne lived that truth every single day.

Though she will be deeply missed, we find comfort in knowing she is at peace, reunited with her savior and loved ones who have gone before her, and waiting to greet us again someday. Until then, we carry her with us—in our memories, in our traditions, and in the love she so freely gave.

Let us remember LaVerne for her gentle spirit, her welcoming heart, and the joy she brought into our lives. And let us honor her by sharing that same kindness with one another.
