Donnie Wayne
Covington
b. Mar 17, 1945
Donnie Wayne Covington
Memorial service for Donnie Covington is scheduled to take place on Saturday, August 23 rd at 1:30pm at College Heights Baptist Church in Chickasha, OK. Donnie, born on March 17, 1945 in Temple, OK, was the son of Morris John Henry Covington and Linnis Taylor. He completed his high school education at Walters High School in May 1963 and married Shirley Palmer on November 23, 1963. Donnie's professional journey began at the age of 16, working on the oil rig while attending school. He progressed to become a drilling superintendent, concluding his career in the oil industry. Upon retirement, Donnie acquired Coyotee Pawn, operating the business alongside Shirley until their retirement, at which point Mike took over.
As I watch my dad take flight to Heaven I'm filled with a mix of sadness and comfort. I'll deeply miss him but I'm comforted knowing he's free from pain. I'll always cherish the memories of his unwavering dedication to providing for our family, while also making time for vacations and quality time. He was ecstatic to become "Poppy" when grandkids arrived. The grandkids brought him immense joy and he cherished every moment he spent with them. He was also blessed to experience being Poppy to great grandkids. Donnie's devotion to his family was profound and he cherished his relationships with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. His life was a shining example of love and we're grateful for the countless memories we shared! We love you and will miss you, Poppy!
Some of the family's fondest memories are that he loved so big! He had a heart of gold, consistently offering assistance to those in need. He firmly believed that success was not simply handed to one, but rather was a direct result of hard work and dedication. His mentality was instilled in multiple friends and family members, many of whom achieved great success. His grandchildren held a special place in his heart. He was bound and determined to attend as many school events, goat shows, and ball games as he possibly could. He had a tireless work ethic while also finding the time to make sure we had family fun. Every summer we would find the closest lake to his rig and stay for weeks at a time!
He is survived by his wife Shirley Covington; daughter Chelley Womack; son Mike Covington; grandkids Brittni and James Boyer, Jake Womack, Rhette King and Kody Garis, and Kalyn Covington; great grandkids Adilyn Boyer and Weston Boyer; sister Lynda Weddle; brother and sister-in-law Ken and Debbie Covington; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father Morris John Henry Covington; mother Linnis Covington; brothers and sisters Letha Hood, Betty Holmes, Frances Saylor, Sue Taylor and Joe Covington.
Cremation arrangements are with McRay Funeral Home.
