 Harvey Johnson

Harvey Johnson of Chickasha, Oklahoma, passed away on June 6, 2026, surrounded by the love and support of his family. He was a beloved husband, dad, brother, uncle, and, to his grandchildren, Pepaw.

Harvey was born on July 13, 1942, in Ninnekah, Oklahoma, to Ebb Melvin Johnson and Hettie Belle Johnson. He was the youngest of eight children, growing up alongside six brothers and one sister. During his senior year of high school in Chickasha, he enrolled in auto mechanic classes through the local vocational-technical program and began working at Knowles Auto Shop. What started as a first job became a lifelong career. Harvey dedicated the next 44 years to Knowles Auto Shop as a skilled front-end mechanic, earning the respect of coworkers and customers before retiring at the age of 62.

Across the street from Harvey's home lived the family of Carolyn Colibert. Their meeting as neighbors grew into love, and Harvey and Carolyn were married in 1961. Together they built a home and raised two sons, Brian and Jason. Carolyn preceded Harvey in death in 2001.

H arvey was blessed to find love again with Karen Asper, and they shared more than twenty years of marriage before her passing. He embraced Karen's son, Tyler, as part of the family they built together. His cat Tiger, a gift from Tyler, was a favorite companion in his later years.

Harvey was a dedicated member of Southern Oaks Church of Christ in Chickasha. He enjoyed serving others and, whenever he was able, assisted with the church's food and clothing ministry.

Harvey was a man of many talents and interests who took great pride in learning new skills. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing, crafting his own bows and arrows, casting black powder bullets, tying his own fishing flies, and sailing his Sunfish sailboat out on local lakes. His interests extended beyond the outdoors. Harvey enjoyed woodworking, crafting practical items like cabinets and tables, as well as toys for his children and grandchildren. He developed a passion for photography, taking classes at the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma to learn film development and photographic techniques. He also enjoyed drawing and painting, creating artwork in both oil and watercolor.

Harvey was preceded in death by his parents, Ebb Melvin and Hettie Belle Johnson; his wife, Carolyn Johnson; his wife, Karen Johnson; six brothers, Lucian Johnson, Charles Milton Johnson, Sydney Johnson, Wayne Johnson, Elton "Pap" Johnson, and Weldon Johnson; and his sister, Alta Hill.

He is survived by his son, Brian Johnson and wife Lisa; his son, Jason Johnson and wife Lisa Appeddu; grandchildren, Piper Riggs and husband Ryan, and Katie Dudley and husband Zach; great-grandchildren, Kinsler Riggs, Ellie Kate Riggs, and Nora Dudley; stepson Tyler Herring, wife Brittany Adkins-Herring, and daughter Allison; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will greatly miss him.

Funeral services will be conducted by McRay Funeral Home at Southern Oaks Church of Christ in Chickasha, Oklahoma, on Friday, June 12, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Chickasha.

Family and friends are invited to gather in celebration of Harvey's life and the legacy of hard work, playful humor, faith, and devotion to family that he leaves behind.
