Obituary

John Delman (Johnny) Cannedy

God welcomed a farmer to heaven today.  He also welcomed a devoted and faithful husband, loving and steady father, son, brother and family member.  As anyone who entered his den would have known, Johnny was an avid sportsman. Among the many deer, elk, antelope, pheasants, and yes, bears, were pictures and remembrances from the many hunting trips he had taken over his lifetime.  The bonds of friendship and love of the outdoors were things Johnny enjoyed sharing.  Whether he was hunting pheasant in Kansas, antelope in Colorado, bear in Alaska or having coffee with you at the Cogar Quick Stop, you knew you were Johnny's friend.  He developed many friendships during the time he worked at Western Electric (now Lucent) that he kept during retirement.  He was very proud of the 41 years he worked there.  Johnny deeply loved his family as well.  He enjoyed family gatherings and events and often playfully teased his loved ones.  He enjoyed people and never met a stranger.  Johnny enjoyed farming his land and spent countless seasons nurturing and harvesting the land he loved.  In his final days, he was asking to go back to the farm.

John Delman Cannedy was born to parents John and Pearl Cannedy, whose home was south of Cogar, OK, on June 28, 1939 and was welcomed into heaven on July 23, 2022 in Yukon, OK.  He was 83 years old.  Johnny was raised on the family farm and attended Verden High School.  This is where he met the love of his life, Bettie Bruce.  They were married on April 20, 1963 and had two daughters, Kari (Gifford) and Nancy (Shedeck).  Johnny was a resident of Yukon for over 50 years.  Johnny was predeceased by his parents, brothers Cleatus and Jerrold, sister Gracie Johnston, and countless friends who he missed deeply.  He is survived by his wife, Bettie, daughters Kari and Nancy, his granddaughters Sotheby and Fynnegan Shedeck, his sister Ella Ridle, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Viewing will be from 9:00am to 7:00pm on July 27 at McRay Funeral Home in Chickasha, OK.  A funeral service to honor Johnny's life will be held at the First Baptist Church in Verden, OK at 2:00pm on Thursday, July 28, 2022.  Burial will follow at the Memory Lane Cemetery in Anadarko, OK.
