Obituary

Karen Louise Johnson

Karen Louise Johnson, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, passed away on August 24, 2025 at the age of 79. A funeral service will be held at 10:00am on Friday, August 29, 2025, in the McRay Funeral Home Chapel, with Ron Blankinship officiating. Interment will follow at Fairlawn Cemetery.

Karen was born and raised in Chickasha, Oklahoma, where she graduated from Chickasha High School. In the 1970s, she moved to Colorado, where she met and married Bob Herring while they were both working at the USA Today newspaper. Together, they relocated to Minnesota before returning to Chickasha in 1997. After Bob's passing in 1998, Karen met Harvey Johnson and they were married in 2002.

Karen worked at Wal-Mart for several years, where she found joy in interacting with people and forming lasting connections with customers and colleagues alike. Her love of people extended beyond her work, as she was also an active member of Southern Oaks Church of Christ, where she enjoyed being involved in relationships in many areas of the church.

Karen had a passion for quilting and was a proud member of the Washita Valley Churndashers Quilt Guild. She created beautiful quilts, often gifting them to family and friends. Music was another of her great loves, and she enjoyed listening to all genres of music throughout her life.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Bill Asper and Wanda Asper McMahan, and her first husband, Bob Herring.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Harvey Johnson; her children, Tyler Herring and wife Brittany, Michael Carpenter and wife Debbie; her stepsons, Brian Johnson and wife Lisa, Jason Johnson and wife Lisa Appeddu; her grandchildren, Allison, Nathan, and Zach; her step-grandchildren, Piper Riggs and husband Ryan, Katie Dudley and husband Zach; her step-great-grandchildren, Kinsler, Nora, and Ellie Kate; and her brother, Scott Asper and wife Thelma.

Karen's kindness, generosity, and vibrant spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
