Lillie Mae Jones

Lillie Mae McConnell Jones was born April 3, 1931 in Pasadena, California to Daniel Henry McConnell and Gertie Mae McConnell. She died June 3, 2025 in Amber, Oklahoma.

While she was at a young age, the family moved back to Chickasha, Oklahoma. At the age of eight, her dad died so she spent the rest of her growing up years living in the Chickasha and Rush Springs area. In 1946 the love of her life, Charlie got home from the army and they were married on Christmas Day of that year. They purchased a small acreage in Agawam and built a small home there with Charlie's mustering out pay. In 1955 they traded that Agawam property for 10 acres east of the Amber community. They framed up a small house and moved in before school started. Due to a fire, they built a second home on that property. Years later, they moved to a different property west of Amber where she lived until her death. She and Charlie raised seven kids.

July 4, 1998, she lost her love, Charlie. She has continued on alone in those following years as a hard-working lady raising a garden, canning, quilting, and maintaining those strong family bonds. She was a great cook, but the two things that were always stand outs, whether at a family or church dinner or a water board meeting, were always her banana pudding and her carrot cake. She was an avid reader, a World War II historian, and a genealogist. She loved most books, but her favorite was the good old King James Bible. Many years ago, she established her pattern of reading the Bible through every year additionally, reading the Psalms and Proverbs monthly. She loved to travel and have adventures. A couple of her memorable trips were to Guantánamo Bay Cuba Naval Base and an Alaskan cruise; but the highlight was realizing her lifelong dream to get to fly in a hot air balloon at the age of 93. She loved her Church and Church family at Trinity Holiness Church in Norman, Oklahoma. She was faithful in her attendance, praying, and giving. Lillie will be sorely missed by all her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents Daniel Henry McConnell and Gertie Mae McConnell; husband Charlie Jones; sons Vernon Jones and Michael Jones; grandson James Rice; great-granddaughters Alexus Dumbo and Christin Boyce; sister Mozella Martin; and brother Elton Martin.

Lillie is survived by her children Charlie Jones, Jr and wife Linda, Darlene Brantley and husband Charles, Elaine Brantley and husband Michael, Deana Taylor and husband Delbert, and Paul Jones; daughter-in-law Becky Jones; sisters Ora Gilmore and husband Robert, and Barbara Baker; aunt Ola Gilmore; 20 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; and 19 great-great-grandchildren with one on the way.
