Sandra Gay
Drummond
Apr 17, 1960 — Dec 15, 2025
Sandra Gay Drummond
Sandra "Sandy" Gay Drummond, formerly Sandra Hughes, 65 years old, of Verden, OK, passed away on Monday 12/15/2025, with pancreatic cancer surrounded by loving family. Sandy was born on April 17, 1960 in Chickasha, OK, the youngest daughter of Cecil Cleo Hughes & Vivian Marie Hughes (Trogden).
Sandy graduated from Verden High School in 1978, then immediately began working full time for her mother at Vivian's Cafe in Verden, OK. While attending high school Sandy also received her cosmetology license. For many years she would cut and style others hair after working a full day in the restaurant. Sandy continued to maintain her cosmetology license up to the present day. The Cafe was her legacy, where she learned to prepare homemade desserts and carry on Vivian's Fried Pies. She then went on to purchase Vivian's Cafe from her mother in 1994 and continuously operated the restaurant until the end of September 2025. In 2016 Sandy expanded beyond her restaurant and helped create Creek Bottom Burgers & BBQ food trailer with her son & daughter in law. Upon operating in Vivian's Cafe parking lot they began to expand outward to festivals and events. In 2020 Creek Bottom Burgers & BBQ established into their first brick & mortar location in the Tri-City area of Newcastle, OK. Sandy's knowledge and wisdom in the restaurant industry will be lived on.
In her free time, Sandra loved landscaping and gardening at her home that she had lived in for over 40 years. She also enjoyed playing golf with Bruce and their friends at Winter Creek Golf Course on the weekends when the weather was nice. She always had a house project going on. She really enjoyed painting and drawing and has passed on her artistic abilities to her granddaughter. More than anything, Sandy loved her two sons. Then came along two grandchildren, who absolutely made her world. On her rough days, those 2 grand kids brought out the biggest joy and just seemed to take the pain away.
Remaining to cherish Sandy's memory are spouse, James Bruce Drummond of Verden; children, Justin Wilson of Verden & Chase Wilson and wife Andrea of Newcastle; grandchildren, Ainsley Wilson & Cutter Wilson of Newcastle; siblings, Don Hughes of Amber, Jim Hughes and wife Marty of Tuttle, Bill Hughes and wife Brenda of Amber, & Brenda Henry of Verden, along with many loved nieces and nephews.
A graveside memorial service will be held December 23, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at the Verden Cemetery (403 4 th Street, Verden, OK, 73092), with Robert Schmidt officiating.
Memorial flowers & arrangements in Sandy's memory may be sent to McRay Funeral Home in Chickasha, OK.
