Akins
Oct 10, 1943 — Apr 10, 2023
Shirley Alice Akins
Shirley Alice Akins was born in Konawa, Oklahoma on October 10, 1943 to her parents Carl Edd Myatt and Zelma Ann Wallis Myatt. She passed away at the age of 79 on Monday, April 10, 2023 in Oklahoma City surrounded by her beloved family.
Shirley met the love of her life, Delbert Akins, and they were married on June 4, 1961. They were married for 61 wonderful years. While Shirley and Delbert were raising their family, she was an amazing mother and eventually a Momo. In addition to all of those already wonderful life accomplishments, she was a loyal and valued employee of Chickasha Public Schools in the Food Service Department for over 30 years. Shirley was a longtime and faithful member of Northside Church of Christ. She was chosen as a Rainbow girl by the Konawa Masonic Lodge for representing their values of courage, friendship, respect, patriotism and service. Shirley embodied these values her entire life and had a servant's heart. Shirley attended a summer training at the local college, formerly known as Oklahoma College for Women, now known as University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma. She is known by all of those that love her for her hospitality and home cooking, often sharing her recipes and wisdom with anyone who asked and it was generally served with a hug.
Life on this earth and holidays will never be the same without her. Her family is comforted by knowing that she was welcomed by her Lord and Savior as well as her loving husband Delbert.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Zelma, her loving husband Delbert and their many siblings. She is survived by the loving legacy of her children, daughter Jeanie Lee and husband Lynn and son Ron Akins and fiance TaMara Skipworth. Her grandchildren Austin Akins, Corbin Lee and wife Kylie, Tanner Akins, Rabecca Akins, Caitlyn Adams and husband Colton, Kylie Layne and fiance Chris, and Bryar Berry. Her great granddaughters Emberly, Oaklynn, Bristol, and Adeline. One sister-in-law Orlin Akins and a host of nieces and nephews.
Shirley's service will be held on Saturday April 15, 2023 at 10:00am at Northside Church of Christ. Interment will be in the Fairlawn Cemetery.
Services are under the direction of McRay Funeral Home.
