Velan Omega Glass

The Journey

On Tuesday evening, after crossing the Great River, Omega Glass found herself in a magnificent garden, filled with vibrantly colored and exquisitely fragrant blooms. It reminded her of her own flower garden that she had carefully tended back home. The path through the garden led to a big, pearly gate which gently swung open as she approached it. "Welcome home, my precious daughter – we've been waiting for you," called a soft voice. She knew that voice well. That tender voice had guided her all her days and had just carried her over that dark and chilly Great River.

Standing beyond the angelic welcoming committee, she saw her dear mother, Opal Hill Harris, who extended her arms to embrace Omega. Standing by Opal's side was Omega's father, Leron Mitchell Harris, who had himself crossed the Great River when Omega was only a teen; with a heart full of joy, she ran and threw her arms around her daddy. A line began to form behind her parents - she was met by her brothers and sisters who had gone ahead of her – Jerry Harris, Clyde Harris, Leroy Harris, LM Harris, Syl Harris, Pat Barnett and Mary Helen Bond, along with their spouses and many other family members and friends. Omega's eyes gleamed as she met and embraced her sister, Gloria LaWanda, for the first time; Gloria had crossed the River as a toddler, before Omega was born. Her niece, Brenna Hodges, who had crossed the River only a month before after a long battle with cancer, greeted her warmly. Then she saw him – her husband Donal. His face lit up with that same smile he had the day they said their wedding vows over 50 years before. They say there are no tears in heaven, but I'm sure I saw many eyes glistening during that joyful reunion.

As she walked along, Omega picked up all the little children she saw, hugging them and loving on each one of them, just as she had done when she taught the 4 and 5 year old children's Sunday School class at church for so many years. Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed an angel with a small tear in his robe. "Don't worry - I'll take care of that for you!" she smiled, as she whipped out a needle and thread and mended his robe. Passing Peter, James & John, she asked, "Have you eaten? Let me fix you something to eat!" She headed straight to the kitchen where she made herself right at home – just as she had cooked so many meals for church dinners in her lifetime. Somebody's got to cook that great banquet dinner in heaven! I'm sure Omega is baking cakes and pies as we speak!

As I watched, I saw her glimpse back across the Great River. "I know you will grieve for me and mourn," she called to those she had left behind. "Allow yourself time and space to grieve and heal, but know that I am in a beautiful, peaceful place that is beyond comprehension. Honor my legacy by loving and serving others as I have done. And one day, you too will cross the Great River, where I will be waiting to welcome you to your forever home."

Those who remain on this side of the Great River for now include her siblings and their spouses Virginia & Hank Reifke of Casper, Wyoming, and Dan & Sheila Harris of Rush Springs, Oklahoma; her children, Don & Shelly Glass of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Gary & Diane Glass of Peculiar, Missouri; Brenna's husband Jeff Hodges of Oklahoma City; her grandchildren, Hannah & Sam Lee, Casey & Abby Goss, Rebecca Glass, Daniel Glass and bonus granddaughter Hanna & Brandon Waits; along with great grandchildren, Rosemary Lee, Xena Lee, Zoey Lee, Khaleesi Goss, Kenli Flourney, Kaynen Souther, Jon Souther and Ester Waits; along with countless extended family members and friends.

We miss you already, Grandma, and look forward to joining you again someday!

PS: Save us a piece of your coconut cream pie for that great banquet!!!
