Viola Marie Martin

Viola Marie Martin was born June 8, 1932, in Burns Flat, OK and went to be with the Lord June 23, 2025. Marie was the only daughter born to David and Lila Morgan. Marie graduated from Central High School in 1950. After graduation Marie attended business school and worked for the Haliburton Oil Company in Duncan for several years. Marie met her husband Richard M. Martin in Duncan and was married on March 3, 1956, at the Eastside Church of Christ in Duncan, OK. Richard and Marie were married for 69 years. Richard's job as an engineer with the Mobil oil company moved them to Kansas soon after the wedding. While in Kansas, Marie had two daughters, Vicki and Cheryl within 22 months. Richard and Marie lived in seven different cities in Kansas in the first six years of their marriage. In 1966, Richard and Marie relocated to OKC, OK, where Marie had her third daughter, Tina. In 1980, Richard and Marie relocated to Chickasha, OK, where they lived for 45 years before her death.

Marie loved her daughters and grandchildren. Marie was a house wife until Richard retired. Marie served alongside her husband, Richard as an elder's wife and was an active member of the Southern Oaks Church of Christ. Marie worked tirelessly in serving people, cooking meals, and tending to baby showers, funerals and church potlucks. Marie never met a stranger and was always reaching out to new faces or visitors to make them feel welcomed and loved.

Marie began selling Longaberger baskets and enjoyed hosting parties for more than 25 years as the "basket lady". Marie's favorite hobbies were making miniatures, telling jokes, hosting Christmas parties, and going to lunch with her church and red hatter friends.

Marie is survived by her husband Richard M. Martin; daughter Vicki Lynn Darkow of OKC; grandchildren Dylan Boyd and Melissa Boyd; great-grandchildren Liam and Bishop Manley; daughter Cheryl Ann Aley of SC; son-in-law William "Bill" Aley; grandchildren Candace M. Aley and spouse Ryan Converse; grandchild Michael R. Aley and spouse Allyson Aley; great-grandchildren Cooper K. Converse, Harper G. Converse, Avery M. Converse, Easton B. Aley and Emery R. Aley; daughter Tina M. Steelman of Blanchard and son-in-law Robbie D. Steelman; grandchildren Robbie "Rowdy" D. Steelman Jr. and spouse Brittney R. Steelman, Gracie M. Snow and spouse Aaron W. Snow, Jax M. Steelman, and Jami Steelman; and great-grandchild Wyatt D. Steelman.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents David and Lila Morgan; two brothers Wayne and Eugene Morgan; and one grandson Covey Boyd.

Viewing will be on Thursday, June 26, 2025 at McRay Funeral Home from 9am-7pm. Please join us in celebrating her life on Friday, June 27, 2025 at 2:00pm at Southern Oaks Church of Christ in Chickasha, OK.
