McRay Funeral Home

MARK MCRAY is the funeral director in charge and owner of the funeral home. Mark was born in 1963 in Lawton, Oklahoma where he lived until moving to Edmond, Oklahoma to attend Oklahoma Christian University. His intentions were to pursue a career in Optometry and follow in the footsteps of his brother who is a local optometrist in Chickasha. However, just before graduation he changed his mind. His father, who had been a gospel preacher for over 40 years, suggested funeral service. About that time, Mark met his wife whose father owned a funeral home in Oklahoma City and provided an opportunity to experience funeral service. Soon thereafter, Mark decided to pursue a career in funeral service. He completed his Bachelors Degree in Biology from Oklahoma Christian University in 1985, then immediately entered the funeral service department at the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond. Upon receiving his Bachelors Degree in Funeral Service in 1986, he moved to Chickasha to begin working for the funeral home, which was called Brown-Binyon Funeral Home at that time. He and his wife, Gay McRay, were married in 1987 and made Chickasha their home. Having the desire to own a funeral home, Mark soon began searching for opportunities throughout the state. However, he and his wife found themselves passing up opportunities as they struggled with the thought of leaving family, church family, friends, and the community they enjoyed. Eventually, the funeral home became for sale and was purchased in May of 2000 by Mark and Gay who renamed it McRay Funeral Home. As a result, they were blessed with the opportunity to remain in the Chickasha community. Mark and his wife have two children, Natalie and Austin.

History of McRay Funeral Home

In 1922, Walter and Golda Brown established the Brown Funeral Home. Walter was a school teacher and decided to change careers. The original location was near the intersection of 3rd street and Chickasha Avenue. In 1929, he built a new funeral home at our current location of 8th Street and Chickasha Avenue where we continue to operate. With their son Wendell Brown and his wife Beverly, the funeral home continued in the Brown family until 1980. At that time, it was purchased by Eddie and Abby Binyon and became known as the Brown-Binyon Funeral Home. During the next 20 years, the Binyons did extensive renovation to update the funeral home and better serve the needs of families. The current owner, Mark McRay, began working for the funeral home as an apprentice in 1986 immediately upon graduating from college with a degree in funeral service. After 14 years, Mark and his wife Gay purchased the funeral home in May of 2000 and continued to enhance the facility and services to meet the changing needs of families.
